Quilt is Quilted!

I've spent the past two days getting this quilt quilted. All it needs is the binding and a label.
Here is the back; it looks great too!
Here is a close up of the quilting. I followed the wonky blocks on the front and did wonky straight-line sewing.
So this is the last quilting project I will work on for a while, as daughter and I are heading out on a road trip to the historical areas of the East Coast. We will be gone until the end of June.

I do want to post a few flower pics for my mom...

My tree peony is blooming! I have had this plant for about 7 years, and this is the first time it has bloomed!
The flower is monstrous and beautiful.
My regular peonies are looking so nice as well!

This corner is always so pretty in the spring. Lupines are one of my most favorite flowers! This purple one is a volunteer and I warmly welcome it to my backyard!
I am not sure what the shorter purple flowers are...I did not plant them. There used to be a gigantic daisy plant in this corner; once it was pulled out and moved, a lot of grasses came up. A few years ago I cleaned all the grass out, and in the spring these popped up! The bulbs must have been buried so deep, and disturbing the soil brought them back to the surface. I am happy they are there!
Here is another view of the back yard. I feel so blessed to live in such a beautiful, park-like setting.

Making Slow Progress

...but it is progress, none the less. I have about ten days left...Yikes!

I put a fun border on the quilt...
...and on the back I decided to put the recipient's name.
This is what takes so long. The letters are fused down, and I use my old machine to zig zag the raw edges. Lots of curves on those letters means extra time and patience!
Hopefully by next week's update I will have it nearly quilted!

Friday Update

Here is the costume I made for a friend of my daughter. This friend played Rapunzel, hence the long locks. I was disappointed that I did not have the opportunity to add the ruffle on the bottom.

I got the black and white wonky squares put together. It measures 70" x 84" for now, but I will be adding a pieced border in the next day or two.
I used a tutorial of AmandaJean of Crazy Mom Quilts. It was very easy to make and came together quickly. (I tweaked the pattern a bit...I used 12.5" squares instead of the suggested 10" squares, and I used 15 dark fabrics and 15 light fabrics in order to get it to the size I wanted.) Here is a link to the tutorial:

Blog Hop Busy!

Is anyone else out there doing this blog hop?
Each day of the hop, a dozen or so quilt designers are featured with a block they designed for this fifth issue of 100 Blocks. It is such fun to visit each blog, getting ideas of how to creatively use innovative blocks, entering giveaways...

Incidentally, I am not getting much sewing done as a result!
